Your Child’s Dental Health & Their Education
No, the research doesn’t tell us that good dental habits will make your child smarter, but what can’t be denied is the connection between poor oral health and poor attendance and concentration during the school year.
According to the Children’s Dental Health Project, healthy teeth and gums are an important part of your child’s overall wellness and can contribute to a more positive educational experience.
They’ve shared one study from a southern California district, for example, where problems with dental health among elementary students contributed to 1 in 3 absences from school, while teens were four times as likely to show lower academic performance if they suffered from some sort of dental pain. The studies also revealed that across the country, 1 out of every 7 children between ages 6 and 12 experienced tooth pain within the previous six months.
But what’s even more astonishing is what we’ve learned from the American Dental Association about this connection, which is that students in the U.S. miss nearly 51 million hours of classroom instruction every year because of problems with their dental health!
Just like parents, we want every child to succeed, which is why we do all we can to provide exceptional family dental care to prevent and treat a variety of dental problems at the earliest stages.
Our proactive approach can help your kids avoid the painful distraction of toothaches and other oral health issues while they’re sitting in class. Having strong, healthy teeth and gums and being free of dental pain can help your child concentrate better in school and, ultimately, have a positive impact on their academic success throughout the year!
Schedule Your Family’s Appointment!
For parents, the end of summer break can be bittersweet.
On one hand, you’ll miss having all that extra family time with the kids, but it’s also nice to get back to your normal routines once school starts back up again.
It can get hectic pretty quickly, though, with homework and extra-curricular activities.
That’s why your friends at Excel Dental are reminding you to bring the family in for dental cleanings and exams so the kids can begin a new school year with a healthy smile!
